Lietuvos religijotyrininkų draugija kviečia į viešą paskaitą „Kintantis Giuleno judėjimas: turkiškas islamas (Rytų) Europoje“.
Religinio lyderio Fethullah Güleno įkvėptas Giuleno judėjimas (arba „Hizmet“ judėjimas) pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais padarė didžiulė įtaką Turkijos religiniam, socialiniam ir politiniam gyvenimui. Susiformavęs XX a. turkiškos sekuliarizmo versijos kontekste, judėjimas siūlė demokratines vertybes, dialogą ir įgalinantį švietimo potencialą apimančią islamo viziją. Jis žinomas ir dėl įvairių švietimo, socialinių ir kultūrinių iniciatyvų, vykdytų kitose šalyse, įskaitant Lietuvą.
Dramatišką poveikį judėjimo raidai turėjo nepavykęs valstybės perversmas Turkijoje 2016 m. ir jį sekę autoritarinio Turkijos prezidento Tayyip Erdoğano veiksmai. Apkaltinęs perversmo organizavimu, Erdoğano režimas sugriovė judėjimo sukurtą infrastruktūrą, ėmėsi masinio judėjimui priklausančių ar tariamai priklausančių žmonių persekiojimo ir įkalinimo bei privertė tūkstančius žmonių ieškoti prieglobsčio Europos šalyse.
Dr. Ismail Mesut Sezgin pristatys judėjimą ir jo raidą po nepavykusio 2016 m. perversmo, įskaitant dabartinį jo narių įsiliejimą į Europos musulmonų bendruomenes, o prof. dr. Egdūnas Račius (Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas) pakomentuos turkiškąjį islamą Rytų Europos islamo kontekste. Paskaita vyks anglų kalba, moderuos dr. Eglė Aleknaitė (Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas).

Lithuanian Society of the Study of Religion invites to a public lecture The Gülen Movement Unfolding: Turkish Islam in (Eastern) Europe
In recent decades, the Gülen movement (or the Hizmet movement), inspired by religious leader Fethullah Gülen, had significant influence on religious, social and political landscape of Turkey. Developed in the context of the Turkish version of secularism in the 20th century, it offered a vision of Islam embracing democratic values, dialogue and the empowering potential of education. The movement is also known for its activities in other countries, including Lithuania, where it has established its presence through various educational, social and cultural initiatives.
The failed coup d’état in Turkey in 2016 and the subsequent actions of authoritarian Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan had dramatic impact on the movement. The accusations of organizing the coup d’état resulted in the destruction of the infrastructure the movement had built, the mass persecution and imprisonment of people factually or supposedly related to it, and led to thousands seeking refuge in European countries.
Dr. Ismail Mesut Sezgin (Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford, and Centre for Hizmet Studies) will present the movement, and its development after the failed 2016 coup d’état, including current resettlement of its members in European Muslim communities, while Prof. Dr. Egdūnas Račius (Vytautas Magnus University) will comment on the Turkish Islam within the landscape of Islam in Eastern Europe. The lecture will be in English, moderated by Dr. Eglė Aleknaitė (Vytautas Magnus University).
